V I D E O > Blind Pilot – "Half Moon"

Blind Pilot has come a long way since their 2008 debut album. Their self-produced West Coast bicycle tour was only the beginning and the band has since been taking the country by storm. This video for “Half Moon” (“We Are The Tide” - 2011) was filmed at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco. Always staying close to their Portland roots, Blind Pilot will be joining forces with another local band next spring with their first orchestral collaboration with the Oregon Symphony. Don’t want to wait until 2013 to hear them live? Blind Pilot will be in Bend in just a few weeks, supporting The Shins!

Organ Grinder – May 24

OrganGrinders Organ Grinder May 24

1071 FM KZME radio is proud to serve as media sponsor for the Organ Grinders series.

On May 24th Organ Grinders is presenting a film and band combo more awesome and outrageous than anything that could have appeared to us in feverish dreams. A silent film that few have heard of and fewer have seen: The Wizard of OZ (1925). An adaptation so bizarre that if you play Dark Side of the Moon along with it… well, honestly it does not really work at all. However what does work is the new soundtrack cooked up by Norway’s In The Country, special guests at the 2010 Portland Jazz Festival.

Organ Grinders – The Wizard of OZ (1925) May 24th – 9:30pm Hollywood Theatre Tickets $12 available at the Hollywood Theatre Box Office and at Filmusik.com
Live score by In The Country

See the trailer for the performance and learn more about In The Country at www.inthecountry.no.

Volunteer Spotlight – Jen of The Magic Number

Jen Seigel is one of the three hosts of The Magic Number. The Magic Number is a radio journey with hosts Don, Jen, and Lex transmitting eclectic music from Portland and beyond for your local listening pleasure. Music is Magic when conjured by three. You can hear it on Saturdays from 6 pm to 8 pm right on 1071 FM KZME radio.

1. A little bit about you: I'm from Miami, FL but I've been in Portland long enough to be a Portlander. I definitely need some vitamin D. Growing up in Miami my biggest musical influences were Rick Ruben, The Two Live Crew and Morbid Angel. Diplo and working at The Quaker Goes Deaf record store in Chicago helped round out my musical tastes. Out here I'm a Yoga Coach and occasional theremin player in Smegma.

2. What is your role at KZME: I'm one of the hosts of The Magic Number radio variety program. I listen to a lot of Portland bands thru Bandcamp and Soundcloud. If I like something, I'll play it.

3. Why did you start volunteering at KZME: Co-host Lex and I used to work together and we always dreamed of having a radio show thanks to listening to WFMU all day at work. DJ Don is someone who I always wanted to hang out with and listen to his records. We all have good but slightly different tastes in music. I love learning about and hearing music so when KZME came about I pitched the idea for the show so that all my radio/ music dreams could come true! Now I get to spend time with two of my favorite people every week and share in the bounty with other radio/ music lovers.

4. How do you keep Portland weird? Oh man. I'm such an average Portlander. I'm a yoga teaching, bike riding, coffee sipping lady with a gangster mohawk wearing a hot pink hip-warmer that actually does have a bird on it. Just like everyone else. Even though I'm a Portlander, I am still from Miami and I do believe that shines through, especially when I go dancing.

5. What is your fave brew: tea? coffee? beer? Coffee. Sadly allergic to beer. Wah.

6. If you were asked to appear on Portlandia, what would the skit be about? In my Portlandia, I have record slaves that reshelve my records and are constant organizing my iTunes. I'm like Willy Wonka in that regard.

7. What Portland band would you ask to write your personal theme song and what would the title be? I would ask White Rainbow to write me a song called, "She's a Black Rainbow." I listen to White Rainbow in one form or another pretty much every day. Even if he wasn't from Portland.

StationToStation
Have you heard about our newly broadcasting show StationToStation? No?! Well you’re in luck. Not only is it our pick of the week, but there’s a live broadcast coming up this weekend! StationToStation is the brainchild of Portland recording engineer and producer, Sean Flora, who envisioned bringing the recording studio experience to a wider audience. A live audience sits in on the recording process, while the whole experience is broadcast live over the air. StationToStation had its debut KZME broadcast with Meester & Meester earlier this month. Coming up on March 25, you can hear another StationToStation featuring Duover, 7pm sharp from the Secret Society Ballroom – and, of course, broadcast live on 1071 FM or right here on KZME.fm.
